Steve Cole

Steve enters year two on the Bison staff. This year he will lead the defensive line. He is also the director of football operations and Special Teams Coordinator. Steve Cole is a Mansfield, Arkansas native. He graduated in 2011 from the University of Arkansas. While at Arkansas, he worked as a student assistant on defense and special teams. He was on staff for the Liberty Bowl and Sugar Bowl teams under Bobby Petrino.

Upon graduation, he received a job at Southwest Baptist University. During his time at SBU, he coached the defensive line and defensive backs for a top 25 team defense. He worked with one of the best secondary units in the MIAA conference with both cornerbacks receiving MIAA all-conference team selections.  He also earned his graduate degree in Athletic Administration. Cole left SBU in 2013 to take a position with the Glendale Falcons in Springfield, Missouri. There, he coached the varsity defensive tackles and was also the freshman defensive coordinator. His freshman defense allowed only 7 points through the last 6 weeks of the season while scoring an average of 8 points per game. At Glendale, he coached defensive lineman Max Oeser who was All-District, All-Conference and All-Area.

After Glendale, Cole accepted the head football coaching position at Greenfield High School, where he was also named athletic director. While at Greenfield, his offense broke nearly all school passing records for both in-game and season marks in his first year.  That offense produced 8-man All-Star wide receiver Carl Mason who played in the annual 8-man All-Star game in Liberty, Missouri, while also having two all conference defensive line players as well.

Cole left Greenfield in 2015 to become Buffalo’s Director of Football Operations and Defensive Line Coach. He will also be working as an assistant on the basketball team. He teaches Health and Physical Education at Buffalo Prairie Middle School. He lives in Bolivar with his wife, Jennifer, and son, Logan.
